U Care Fund
The Care and Share dragonboat cosolidates the Labour Movement's efforts to better the welfare of lower-income union members.

In response to the economic downturn this year, the Labour Movement, consisting of unions, associations and social enterprises, launched the U Care Fund to collectively raise money with the tripartite partners.

Setting a target of $20 million for 2009, the funds will provide relief to lower-income union members and their families. To help ease their living expenses, this might take the form of transport and utility vouchers, and education-related vouchers for children as in previous years.

The Labour Movement is also working towards putting aside funds for retrenched workers who might not be compensated due to layoffs and company closures. The fund issues tax exempt receipts.
