Who can be a NTUC member?
NTUC Membership is open to working people above 16 years of age (except for uniformed personnel in MINDEF, SAF, the Police and Civil Defence, and armed personnel in CISCO).
What is the difference between Ordinary and General Branch Membership?
The Union represents Ordinary members in wage negotiations and workplace issues. General Branch members do not have such representation rights. However, they enjoy the same social benefits, e.g NTUC Fairprice rebates, NTUC Card, chalets, access to Golf privileges and NTUC Club facilities.
How will I know which category of membership will I join?
You will join as a GB member if (a)there is no union in your work place; or (b)there is a union in your work place, but the union may not represent you because of your position.
Which Union do I join?
Based on the company you are in, you will join one of more than 60 unions affiliated to the NTUC.
Can executives join?
Yes, most executives may join as General Branch members. Since September 2002, the law has been amended to allow partial representation of executives.

What is the subscription rate?
Payment of membership is either made through Inter-bank GIRO monthly, at the rate of *$9 per month, plus an annual contribution of $9 to the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), or through cheque payment of $117 upfront, which consists of $9 per month for whole year ($9 x 12 months = $108) and an annual contribution of $9 to NTUC.

What is the new NTUC Card?
The new NTUC Card is a magnetic stripe card that allows cardholders to earn & redeem LinkPoints at FairPrice and other participating merchants . The new NTUC Card will replace the existing NTUC Gold Link Card (and silver Link Card with hologram). The existing NTUC Gold Link Card (and Silver Link card with hologram) will not be used as proof of NTUC membership with effect from 1 December 2004.
The new NTUC Card does not have the Cashcard facility. The LinkPoints will be stored in our backend system and not on the Card itself.
When can I start using the new NTUC Card?
You can start using the new NTUC Card from 1 December 2004 onwards.
How do I use the new NTUC Card?
You have to present the new NTUC Card for issuance & redemption of LinkPoints at our participating merchants. There is no change to the current practice.
When will the new NTUC Card expire ?
There is no expiry date.
Can I apply for a supplementary Card for my family members?
There are no supplementary cards.
Is there an annual Card fee?
The annual fee for participating in the LinkPoints Programme is 500 LinkPoints. This is deducted from the accumulated number of LinkPoints you have at the end of the calendar year. If you have insufficient LinkPoints, you will not be required to top up the difference in cash.
NTUC Link reserves the right to review the participating fee.
What is the administration fee for the replacement Card?
Administrative fee of $3.00 (inclusive of GST) is applicable for any replacement Card.
What should I do if my card is damaged, lost or stolen?

Where can I update my address?

Can the new NTUC Card be used at the existing Link Merchant outlets?
Yes, the new NTUC Card can be used at Link Merchant outlets with effect from 1 December 2004.

When will the LinkPoints expire?
LinkPoints earned in a calendar year will expire on the 31 December of that year. However, cardholders are given an additional six months grace to redeem their points. LinkPoints not redeemed after the grace period the following year will be expired.
NTUC Link reserves the rights to amend the validity period of the LinkPoints.
Do I need to do a LinkPoints transfer from the existing Link Card to the new NTUC Card?
No, the points will automatically be transferred to the new NTUC Card.
Can I use both the existing NTUC Link Card & new NTUC Card?
You will not be able to use your existing NTUC Link Card for LinkPoints issuance and redemption and as proof of NTUC membership with effect from 1 December 2004 onwards. After 1 December 2004, only the new NTUC Card will be accepted.
What will happen to the ATM facility if my existing NTUC Link Card has this function?
You may continue to use your existing NTUC Link Card for ATM transactions if your card is still linked to the bank. If you wish to have a separate ATM card, please proceed to your bank to obtain one.
What will happen to my Cashcard value in my existing NTUC Link Card?
You may wish to continue using the Cashcard facility in your existing NTUC Link Card as long as your card has not expired (subject to NETS & the banks' terms & condition). However, you are encouraged to deplete the Cashcard value and if you wish to obtain your Cashcard refund, please see the procedures below:
- Cards without the ATM feature - Procedure
Obtain a Cashcard refund form and envelope from NTUC Link Customer Service Counter, the Union office or local bank branches. After filling up the form, insert the completed form and the old card into the envelope. Deposit the envelope into the Cashcard refund boxes available at DBS/POSB.
NETS will take about 14 days to process and credit the refund into the cardholder?s bank account upon receipt of the existing NTUC Link Card.
- Cards with the ATM feature - Procedure
Visit the issuing bank. Proceed to the bank counter and inform the teller of your wish to have the Cashcard refund from the NTUC Link Card. Submit the NTUC Link Card to the bank to process the refund application. The bank will then credit the refund to your bank account after they have processed the refund. Please inform the teller if you need an ATM card for your banking transactions.
If you choose to have the remaining value credited into your specific bank account, the value will be reflected in their bank account statement after the refund has been processed.
Please be informed that DBS/POSB will be embarking on an initiative to discontinue the top up of the Cashcard chip of the ATM-NTUC Link cards at the ATM/EFTPOS terminal with effect from 1 November 2004.
Can I obtain a Cashcard refund if I lose my existing NTUC Link Card?
The cash value in the Cashcard is the same as physical cash. It would not be possible for NETS to give you a refund if the NTUC Link Card is misplaced.
Can I obtain a Cashcard refund through the ATM?
To use the ATM network for refund of the Cashcard value in the NTUC Link Card is not allowed.
What is the LinkPoints programme?
The LinkPoints programme is a customer-benefits programme for NTUC Link cardholders. With the NTUC Link card, you can earn and redeem LinkPoints when you shop or dine at hundreds of our participating merchants' outlets in Singapore. This is in addition to the rebates currently enjoyed by FairPrice shareholders.
Where can I earn LinkPoints?
You can earn LinkPoints whenever you shop at any of our participating merchants' outlets, identified with the Link signages. An updated listing can be found in the Blast! brochure and the NTUC Link website. The LinkPoints may only be made to cardholders who make the purchase(s) personally at the point-of-sale.
What is the annual fee?
The annual fee is 500 LinkPoints. This is deducted from the accumulated number of LinkPoints you have at the end of a calendar year. If you have insufficient points, you will not be required to top up the difference in cash and the outstanding amount will not be carried forward to the next year.
How does the LinkPoints programme work?
When you present your NTUC Card at the sales counter, the LinkPoints are issued and stored on your card. The number of LinkPoints awarded and the total available LinkPoints are printed on the NETS transaction receipt regardless of payment mode. These LinkPoints can subsequently be used to redeem for free or subsidised gifts at our participating merchants' outlets or at NTUC Link Redemption Centre.
How can I redeem the LinkPoints?
When you present your NTUC Card at any of our participating merchants' redemption counter, the amount of LinkPoints required for redemption are deducted from your card. The transaction is recorded on the NETS transaction receipt.
When will the LinkPoints expire?
The LinkPoints earned in a calendar year will expire on the 31 December of that year. However, cardholders are given an additional six months' grace period. NTUC Link may from time to time, amend the validity period of the LinkPoints.
What should I do if I lose my NTUC Card?

Alternatively, you can drop by our office at No 1, Marina Boulevard #B1-01, One Marina Boulevard (beside Neptune Theatre along Collyer Quay). If you encounter any problem using your NTUC Card at a sales counter, you can first check your card at another sales counter or outlet. If the issue persists, kindly contact us using any of the aforementioned avenues and we'll have your card checked and replaced (if necessary). Either way, we will be glad to be of service to you!
