About the Union Employability Representatives Network
The Union Employability Representatives network would be piloted for a period of one year. The target date for rollout of the above would be with effect from April 2004.
The Union Employability Representatives network serves to expand the outreach of learning and employment assistance to workers in the workplace especially those of lower educated and more matured workers most at risk of structural unemployment
Roles and Responsibilities of UERS
A core delegation of union leaders will commit to the cause of the UER network. They will be trained and appointed as union employability representatives to undertake the responsibilities of learning promotion and employment faciliatation.
Through this network, NTUC hopes to reach out to employers and workers to advocate skills upgrading to (i) Enhance the employability of workers (ii) Ensure that companies' businesses stay viable and remain profitable
The roles and responsibilities of the UERS are summarised as shown below:
Summary Of Roles And Responsibilities Of UERS

1) Learning Promotion
-To identify training needs of employers and workers in terms of educational and job specific upgrading.
-To identify training constraints and difficulties encountered at the workplace. Eg shift work pattern, entry requirement

4) Dissemination of information
-To disseminate information on the various National and union training programmes to workers
-To encourage workers to take concrete actions to upgrade

2) Workplace –specific training
-To identify and implement workplace specific training programmes.
|
5) Employment Facilitation
-To alert on any impending retrenchments or new vacancies in the company.
- To provide counseling for workers in matters concerning training and job opportunities

3) Provide Leads
-To provide leads and to help initiate and facilitate discussion with employers
